Query the Murder is built privacy-first. There are no accounts, no logins, and we do not collect or store any personal information about you. This policy explains the little data we do handle and why.
We do not ask for or store your name, email address, or any account details — because there are no accounts. We do not store the SQL queries you write, the cases you solve, or any personal identifiers. Your gameplay stays in your browser.
We use PostHog, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand how people use the site in aggregate — for example, which cases are started most often, or where players get stuck. This helps us improve the game.
This analytics data is anonymous. Specifically:
Query the Murder does not use advertising cookies and does not track you across other websites. Our analytics tool, PostHog, stores a random anonymous identifier in your browser so it can tell one visit apart from another. It is not linked to your name or any personal identity, and it is never used to follow you around the web. The rest of the browser storage the site uses simply keeps the game working, such as remembering your progress within a case.
Our analytics are handled by PostHog. Because the data we send is anonymous and contains no personal identifiers, it cannot be tied back to you. The site is served as static pages with no backend database storing user information.
Query the Murder is an educational tool suitable for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal information at all.
